City of Auburn Waste Reduction and Recycling School Education and Outreach Program
SERVICE AREA: Youth Education
Overview
Overview
We develop and deliver waste reduction and recycling workshops for elementary schools, comprehensive secondary school cafeteria waste studies, and assist the Auburn School District with resource conservation strategies
Project Description
Triangle works with the Auburn School District Resource Conservation Manager to create and support simple and unique outreach messaging and activities on behalf of the City of Auburn. This messaging promotes waste reduction, recycling, and food waste diversion throughout the Auburn School District to students, teachers and staff. Triangle delivers classroom workshops for grades 3-5. Students utilize science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills to identify problems and design solutions involving concepts of waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting. In addition, classes can choose to learn about vermicomposting and building a classroom worm bin. At the secondary level, the Triangle team designs and facilitates lunch time activities, including cafeteria waste audits. All programs encourage and empower students to take action both at school and at home. All program materials align with current learning standards, are age appropriate and work in conjunction with the King County Green Schools Program.
