Since 2019, Triangle has supported Community Transit with its Innovative Services Program in Snohomish County. The Innovative Services Program partners with local communities to test new transportation solutions to offer more public transit options. Through grassroots community engagement methods, Triangle helped Community Transit hear from potential riders to shape transportation services that meet community needs. Triangle convened Community Working Groups that were comprised of residents, businesses, and government agencies. These groups steered the process from identifying transportation needs to selecting innovative services for their community. To supplement the lived and local expertise from Community Working Groups, Triangle disseminated surveys with the support of community based organizations. In addition, Triangle held focus groups with Spanish-speaking community members, youth, and people with disabilities to help ensure that populations who have historically been excluded from decision-making were an integral part of Community Transit’s process. As a result of this deeply participatory planning process, Community Transit launched the “Zip” shuttle in Lynnwood, Darrington, Lake Stevens, and Arlington, helping people connect to the places that matter most.
