Civil Rights Environmental Justice Mediation
SERVICE AREA: Facilitation and Mediation
Triangle is the only firm that has used Alternative Dispute Resolution to successfully mediate environmental civil rights disputes that fall under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
Project Description
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in federally supported programs. Triangle has acted as a mediator between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other groups to settle environmental justice disputes. One case involved mediating between a community group, a non-profit environmental justice organization, and a hazardous waste regulatory agency in Kettleman, California. The other case involved mediating between a non-profit environmental justice organization and an air quality regulatory authority in the San Joaquin Valley, California. Triangle is still the only company to have successfully resolved EPA Title VI cases using Alternative Dispute Resolution.
